The Wedding Crashers

We didn't really get to attend the wedding... but the reception was held here on the patio outside my room. They came in trucks, taptap style, in all their fancy dresses, vans and cars....very quiet actually. With American music playing in the background, everyone found a table to sit, staff passed around champagne - there were some words spoken at the 'wedding' table that we couldn't hear and pictures and after an hour the bride began the line for the food. Hor'devoerves(sp?) were offered and while we waited until the end of the line to be polite, missed out on some of the offerings to our disappointment. Soon after people began departing - We were surprised! What about the cake!! Wait! We haven't had cake! It was being dismantled before our eyes with parts given to different people! I couldn't stand it - I asked why the Bride and Groom didn't cut the cake. It is Haitian custom that the cake belongs to the Bride and she can give it to whomever she wishes to share. The guesthouse was going to get some of it but when do we get to taste it...??? All off the work of the past 2 days and the party was finished in less than 2 hours- very low key and quiet. No first dance...no dancing at all except by the 2 little flower girls.
So what do 4 woman in the mood for dancing do...head to Jet Set, a popular club in Peytionville (P-V) - I wish I'd taken my camera. It was a tiki bar meets disco. Strobe lights/ smoke/fog machine spitting out smokey fog every once in awhile...The DJ and American music...including Celebration and YMCA! So like Cinderella's at the ball danced until midnight - mostly with each other but it didn't matter on the crowded little dance floor. It seemed a very eclectic crowd with Haitians and a variety of ngo and UN people- It was a fun way to end the day for sure. ( We searched the kitchen for some wedding cake and not finding it wondered how they could hide it so well from us....I realized before falling asleep it had to be in plain site- the dining room!)
I guess I should back up to the beginning.....The Boston team consists of members from Boston, Wisconsin and Phillidelphia. Two arrived from Philly and 2 from Wisconsin....The actual Boston members had plane problems and are delayed until today. Hopefully, we'll see them around 1 pm today. And yes the cake was in plain site- the dining room and no- I still haven't tasted it. It is Jean's birthday today and I do believe we will get cake - just not sure it will be a wedding cake.
Guess I'll head out to the pool- The tables and chairs are being taken down...party's over.
