July 19

I've added a few more elements to this site that I hope you will find helpful. As soon as I figure out how I will add some pictures from past trips.
I'm currently working on a new project to provide training and education to nurses and nursing students, therapy techs in training, for the caregivers in the orphanages we visit and to parents of children with disabilities. Our plan is to make dvds, translated into kreyol and provide companion written material to leave as review after we teach the classes.
Since this is a new learning experience for me, and will depend on being very organized as well, wish me luck.

Mission to Haiti

Healing Hands for Haiti team Portland is beginning preparations for their 5th Rehab based medical mission to Port au Prince, Haiti. We will be departing from PDX 28 January 2008 for an overnight flight that will take us to Haiti the following day. For the next 2 weeks we will visit orphanages and work in the Kay Kapab Clinic in Port au Prince. We would like to send a team to Les Cayes (SW Haiti) and to Cap Haitian (North Central) to provide care and supplies. These outreach programs are new to our team and we are excited to add this to our experiences.
We hope that by following our journey you will be inspired to help our organization in any way you can. Your support of our efforts to bring a healing and helping hand to many disabled children and adults in this most impoverished nation in our own hemisphere.
Haiti is just over an hour flight from Miami yet very far in terms of medical rehabilitation care that is available- Healing Hands for Haiti is trying to make a difference by providing training to Haitians in physical therapy, orthotics and prosthetics and training care givers to care for the many disabled children left in hospitals and orphanages all over the country.
We are collecting donations to take with us that includes medical supplies, wheelchairs, walkers, shoes and school supplies as well as needing sponsorship to help with expenses associated with trip- translators and in-country transportation (Gasoline is about double what we in the states pay at the pumps). All team members volunteer their vacation time and pay for airfare and room and board expenses.
